Indexation
Indexation is the process of a search engine storing and organizing a page so it can appear in search results.
In plain English
A page must be crawled, then deemed worth keeping, to enter the index. Pages can be excluded by noindex tags, robots.txt blocks, canonicalization, or simply low quality. You can check status in Google Search Console's URL Inspection.
Why it matters for SEO
A page that isn't indexed can't rank for anything — indexation is the floor every other SEO effort sits on.
