Schema Markup

Schema markup is structured data added to a page's HTML that helps search engines understand its content.

In plain English

Using the schema.org vocabulary (usually as JSON-LD in the page head), you label things like articles, products, FAQs, breadcrumbs, and reviews. This can unlock rich results — star ratings, FAQ accordions, breadcrumb trails — in the SERP. Always validate your markup with Google's Rich Results Test, and only mark up content that's actually visible on the page, or you risk a structured-data manual action.

Why it matters for SEO

Rich results take up more space and earn higher click-through rates than a plain blue link, so the same ranking position can win far more traffic.
